The Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine Living Grant supports outstanding full-time international undergraduate degree students.

  2. Excellent conduct and academic performance.
  3. Incoming undergraduates in all programs must apply before enrollment and generally be no older than 30.
  4. Students receiving the Chinese Government Scholarship, excluding the Chinese Government Scholarship for Outstanding Self-Funded Students, Shanghai Municipal Government Scholarship, any university pre-enrollment scholarship, or the university’s Inspirational Grant for International Students may not receive this grant simultaneously.
  5. This grant may be received together with the university’s Professional Scholarship for International Students.

II. Funding

RMB 5000 per academic year for a maximum of 5 years.

III. Application Materials

  1. Proof of highest academic qualification.
  2. One transcript issued by the graduating institution.
  3. One statement of family financial circumstances.
  4. One personal statement, including a study plan for China.
  5. Non-ethnic-Chinese students must provide one HSK certificate.
  6. All materials must be in Chinese or English. Other languages require notarized Chinese or English translations.
  7. Applicants must ensure authenticity. Falsification will disqualify the applicant from the grant, with all consequences borne by the applicant.
  8. Materials will not be returned to applicants who do not receive funding.

IV. Application Deadline

June 15 each year.

V. Grant Review

  1. The university will establish a grant review committee to examine applications.
  2. As needed, the committee will assess applicants through interviews, telephone interviews, email and other methods, awarding funding on merit.
  3. The university will promptly notify applicants of results in writing.

VI. Annual Review

  1. Apply before enrollment. First-year review is primarily based on submitted materials. In subsequent years, recipients must undergo annual review as required. The university comprehensively assesses the previous year’s academic results, learning attitude, attendance, conduct, rewards and disciplinary record. Only those passing review may continue receiving the grant the next year. Those who fail will have it suspended or canceled from the next academic year.
  2. Recipients must earn all credits required by their course plan.
  3. At the beginning of each academic year, the International Students Office reviews and publicly posts the list of recipients for at least 3 working days. If no objections are raised, the school or department reviews the list and the office announces it.
  4. Students must pay the year’s tuition in full before the Living Grant is disbursed. Those disciplined or withdrawn before payment because of violations of Chinese law, regulations or university rules lose that year’s grant.

VII. Other Provisions

This scheme took effect in September 2015, beginning with the 2015 intake. Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine reserves the right to interpret these implementation rules.
