Chongqing University China-EU Student Exchange Program

The China-EU Student Exchange Program is a full scholarship provided by China’s Ministry of Education to students from EU member states.

I. Categories and duration

1. Categories: undergraduate, master’s and doctoral students, general scholars and senior scholars.
2. Duration matches the standard program length. Recipients in Chinese-taught programs whose Chinese does not meet specialist study requirements, HSK Level 4 or above, must first undertake Chinese preparation after arrival and pass before beginning their program.

II. Coverage

Tuition, accommodation, living allowance and comprehensive medical insurance. Ask the Education and Culture Office of the Chinese Mission to the EU for details.

III. Application agency and dates

Agency: Education and Culture Office, Chinese Mission to the EU.

Generally early January-early April. Confirm exact dates with that office.

IV. Eligibility

1. Non-Chinese citizens of EU member states in good health.
2. Qualifications and age:

• Undergraduate: high-school graduation, excellent results, no older than 25.
• Master’s: bachelor’s degree, no older than 35.
• Doctoral: master’s degree, no older than 40.
• General scholar: at least a high-school qualification, no older than 45.
• Senior scholar: a master’s degree or higher, or an associate professor title or higher, no older than 50.

V. Procedure

1. Apply to the Chinese Mission to the EU’s Education and Culture Office and obtain nomination eligibility.
2. Contact Chongqing University and obtain a pre-admission notice.
3. Access the Chinese Government Scholarship information system through http://www.csc.edu.cn/studyinchina or http://www.campuschina.org, click the student online application icon, complete and submit the application, and print the Chinese Government Scholarship Application Form. Obtain system instructions and the agency number from the mission office.
4. Submit documents to that office within the required period.

Note: CSC does not accept direct individual applications. It may adjust university choices for applicants without pre-admission notices.

VI. Documents, all in duplicate

1. Chinese Government Scholarship Application Form in Chinese or English.
2. Notarized highest qualification certificate. Documents not in Chinese or English require notarized Chinese or English translations. Current students must provide proof of enrollment.
3. Academic transcripts, with notarized Chinese or English translations where required.
4. Study or research plan in Chinese or English: at least 200 words for undergraduates, 500 for visiting scholars and 800 for postgraduate students.
5. Master’s, doctoral and senior scholar applicants: recommendations from two professors or associate professors in Chinese or English.
6. Music applicants: a CD of personal work. Fine arts applicants: a CD containing 2 sketches, 2 color paintings and 2 other works.
7. Applicants under 18: legal documents relating to their legal guardian in China.
8. Applicants studying more than 6 months: copy of the Foreigner Physical Examination Form, retaining the original. This standard form issued by China’s health and quarantine authorities is downloadable from http://www.csc.edu.cn/studyinchina or http://www.campuschina.org and must be completed in English. Complete every required examination. Forms with missing items, no personal photograph, no stamp across the photograph, or no physician and hospital signatures and stamps are invalid. Results are valid for 6 months.
9. Copy of Chongqing University’s pre-admission notice, if obtained.
10. Copy of an HSK report, if obtained.

Bind documents in the above order at the upper-left corner, in two sets. Documents are not returned regardless of admission results.

VII. Admission and notification

1. CSC checks eligibility. Ineligible applications or documents not meeting requirements are not accepted.
2. CSC forwards approved documents to relevant universities. According to program funding requirements, host capacity, program duration and applicant circumstances, it may adjust the chosen university, program, category and scholarship duration. The university determines admission. Applications with Chongqing University pre-admission notices are sent directly there for confirmation.
3. Applicants whose admission is confirmed by a host and approved by CSC receive scholarship support. Each recipient may hold only one Chinese Government Scholarship program.
4. Before July 31, CSC sends the recipient list, Admission Notices and Visa Application for Study in China forms (JW201) to the mission office for forwarding to students.
5. After arrival, recipients may not change the university, program or duration stated in the Admission Notice.
6. Scholarship eligibility is not retained if a recipient cannot arrive within the admission period.
