Shandong University Jinan Sister City Scholarship

The Jinan Municipal Government established this scholarship to attract and encourage more students from its international sister cities, including friendly cooperation cities, to study and conduct research at Jinan universities. Both categories are called sister cities below.

I. Eligibility

(1) Foreign citizens from Jinan’s sister cities or friendly cooperation cities, friendly toward China and in good health.

(2) Comply with Chinese laws and regulations, demonstrate good conduct and meet Shandong University admission requirements.

(3) Have a positive learning attitude, no university rule violations and good academic results.

(4) Receive no other scholarships or financial support simultaneously.

II. Funding standards

Full and Outstanding International Student scholarships mainly support tuition. Full scholarships cover full-time doctoral, master’s and bachelor’s students and long-term language or specialist visiting students studying at least one academic year, including one year. Outstanding International Student Scholarships cover language or specialist visiting students studying less than one academic year and short-term reciprocal exchange students. The two scholarships cannot be combined.

Outstanding International Student	Visiting students studying for at least 3 months	At most RMB 1000/person/month and RMB 5000 per visit in total; one-time award; no repeat application within 3 years from the award year
Outstanding International Student	Language students studying within 3 months or sister-city short-term exchange students	Municipal Foreign Affairs Office determines standards according to circumstances; one-time award; no repeat application within 3 years from the award year

III. Dates

February-May, paid in October; September-November, paid the following March.

See the attachment for required documents. Email scans to apply@sdu.edu.cn and mail originals to the International Admissions Office, Department of International Affairs, Shandong University, Room C301, Mingde Building, 27 Shanda South Road, Jinan, China.

Submitted documents are not returned. Previous recipients applying again in subsequent academic years may use simplified procedures and materials. Submitted documents are not returned.

V. Review

Results are released each June and the following January, with review of existing recipients’ eligibility.

VI. Payment

The university pays the current academic year’s scholarship as a single payment before March 30 and October 30 each year.

VII. Other rules

Recipients unable to report on time due to illness or other personal reasons do not retain eligibility. Scholarships obtained through false documents or fraud are recovered.

VIII. Full scholarships are centrally managed by the university and earmarked for recipients’ registration, tuition, laboratory, internship, basic textbook, accommodation and insurance fees and part of living expenses. Outstanding International Student Scholarships are paid to students for their own use.
