Coverage and standards

The Ministry of Education provides Chinese Government Scholarships and entrusts the China Scholarship Council (CSC) with international student admissions and routine administration.

All undergraduate, master’s and doctoral programs are covered. Benefits include:

1. Registration, tuition and on-campus accommodation fee waivers.
2. Living allowance.
3. One-time settlement allowance.
4. Comprehensive medical insurance for Chinese Government Scholarship international students.

Eligibility

1. Non-Chinese citizens in good health. The scholarship admits new students only and is not provided to students already in China.
2. Bachelor’s applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree, have HSK Level 3 or above and be no older than 30.
3. Master’s applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree, have HSK Level 4 or above and be no older than 35.
4. Doctoral applicants must hold a master’s degree, have HSK Level 4 or above and be no older than 40.

Early February-end of March each year.

Route

Apply online at , agency number 10691. After successful submission, mail the scholarship form and following paper documents to reach the university before the deadline.

Documents, in duplicate

1. Chinese Government Scholarship Application Form, completed in Chinese or English and signed.
2. Copy of the passport photograph page.
3. Notarized highest qualification certificates, including graduation and degree certificates. Current students or employed applicants also provide enrollment or employment certification. Documents not in Chinese or English require notarized Chinese or English translations.
4. Transcript copies, with notarized Chinese or English translations where needed.
5. Study or research plan for China in Chinese or English, signed.
6. Master’s and doctoral applicants only: recommendations from two professors or associate professors in Chinese or English, explicitly stating the recommender’s title.
7. Copy of the Foreigner Physical Examination Record. Bring the original to China.
8. Applicants with HSK Level 4 or higher receive priority and should provide certificate and result copies.

Note: Documents are not returned regardless of admission results.

Admission and notification

A university expert group selects candidates and reports them to CSC. After admission, the university mails JW201 forms and Admission Notices and publishes recipients on the international student school website. Check its announcements. After enrollment, recipients generally may not transfer universities, change programs or change study duration.
