    • New master’s students: 2 years.
    • New doctoral students: 3 years.
    • Exchanges: according to requested study duration and agreements.

    • First class: tuition exemption and RMB 1000/month living allowance.
    • Second class: tuition exemption.
    • Third class: 50% tuition reduction.
    • Fourth class: 20% tuition reduction.

Recipients needing Chinese preparation receive the awarded standard during preparation. HSK Level 4 holders need no preparation.

  1. Postgraduate places are approximately 10% of new international postgraduate applicants:

    • First class: tuition and accommodation exemption, plus RMB 1300/month for master’s students or RMB 1600/month for doctoral students.
    • Second class: tuition and accommodation exemption.
    • Third class: tuition exemption.
    • Fourth class: 50% tuition reduction.

    • Second class: tuition and accommodation exemption.
    • Third class: tuition exemption.
    • Fourth class: 10% tuition reduction.

IV. Eligibility and Methods

  1. Undergraduate applicants must meet at least one:

    • Excellent home-country university entrance results, at least 70% of the maximum score.
    • Awards in national or international competitions.
    • High-level cultural or sporting abilities certified by a professional organization.
  2. Postgraduate applicants must meet at least one:
    • Excellent results in the previous qualification.
    • High-level SCI/EI-indexed papers or participation in disciplinary conference series.
    • Award-winning professional research achievements as a principal project participant.
    • High-level cultural or sporting abilities certified by a professional organization.
    • Priority for outstanding university performance recognized through institutional awards.
  3. Exchange applicants must be enrolled at a sending institution with a formal school-level or higher exchange agreement with HIT.

V. Application Method

  1. Selection occurs annually. Apply March 15-June 15; late applications are not accepted.
  2. Submit the HIT New Student Scholarship Application Form with the admission application and supporting evidence. Additional page: http://www.studyathit.cn/en/academic/program/view?id=19. Forms are downloadable from the School of International Education. Documents are not returned.

VI. Assessment

After checking qualifications, HIT assesses through impartiality, openness, fairness and merit. Interviews may be required. Results are notified personally and posted on the school’s official website by July 15 each year. Recipients must formally acknowledge acceptance within the prescribed period or are deemed to have forfeited eligibility.

VII. Administration

Recipients must register on time. Late arrival requires advance notice to the School of International Education, otherwise the scholarship is deemed forfeited.

Recipients must sign in at the school between the 10th and 15th each month. Missing sign-in stops that month’s payment without later reimbursement. Payments during leave or suspension of study are also stopped without later reimbursement.

Postgraduate recipients undergo annual review April 10-30. Passing allows continued funding the following year; failure cancels eligibility.

Scholarships are canceled and relevant rules applied for:

  • Violating Chinese law or university rules.
  • Unauthorized late registration, non-medical departure or unjustified absence exceeding two weeks.
  • Failing 30% of a semester’s examined or assessed courses.
  • Meeting conditions for repeating a year.
  • Interrupting study for personal reasons after receiving the scholarship, treated as voluntary forfeiture.
