I. Introduction

The University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) has established a scholarship to support outstanding young people from abroad in pursuing master’s and doctoral degrees, taking advanced courses, making academic visits and conducting specialized research. It also encourages postgraduate students enrolled at foreign universities to visit UCAS or undertake joint training. The scholarship offers full and partial support. The full scholarship comprises four components: a tuition waiver, living allowance, basic accommodation and medical insurance. A partial scholarship includes one or several of these components. From the 2016 academic year, full scholarships primarily support postgraduate students.

II. Funding Coverage

  1. UCAS tuition waiver.

  2. Scholarship living allowance: RMB 2000/month for master’s students and general scholars, and RMB 2500/month for doctoral students, senior scholars and jointly trained postgraduate students. In addition, supervisors and institutes/schools provide scholarships or grants based on the recipient’s study and research performance, bringing the total scholarship living allowance to at least RMB 3000/month for master’s students and general scholars, and at least RMB 3500/month for doctoral students, senior scholars and jointly trained postgraduate students.

  3. Basic accommodation: UCAS provides basic accommodation to full-scholarship students admitted by institutes in Beijing and UCAS schools and departments, as well as scholarship students from institutes outside Beijing during centralized coursework. After centralized coursework ends and students return to their institutes, institutes outside Beijing assist them with accommodation, and students must pay accommodation fees under the institute’s regulations.

  4. Comprehensive medical insurance: premiums are RMB 800/person for one year or RMB 400/person for half a year. For coverage details, see the introduction to insurance products for international students in China on the Study Abroad Insurance website (www.lxbx.net).
