Capital University of Physical Education and Sports

Founded in 1956, Capital University of Physical Education and Sports is the only sports university administered by Beijing Municipality. It has consistently ranked third nationwide in the ShanghaiRanking of Chinese sports universities for six consecutive years. In June 2021, the establishment of the Beijing International Olympic Academy, based at the university, was approved by the International Olympic Committee and the State Commission Office for Public Sector Reform. It was the first humanities and knowledge legacy of the Beijing 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

The university has a complete system of undergraduate, master’s and doctoral education. In 2012, it was approved to offer the doctoral talent training project in “Physical Movement Function Training for Young People,” serving special national needs, and began independently training doctoral students. It has two first-level disciplines, Physical Education and Psychology. Physical Education is a high-level, advanced and cutting-edge discipline of Beijing universities and has ranked fifth nationwide in ShanghaiRanking’s Best Chinese Subjects Rankings for three consecutive years. The university has 7 master’s degree authorization fields: Physical Education and Sports Training, Sports Humanities and Sociology, Human Movement Science, Traditional Chinese Sports, Sports Rehabilitation, Sports Engineering, and Psychology. It offers 15 undergraduate programs. Of these, 9 are national first-class undergraduate program development sites: Physical Education, Sports Training, Wushu and Traditional Chinese Sports, Social Sports Guidance and Management, Sports Economics and Management, Human Movement Science, Leisure Sports, Journalism, and Dance Performance. Physical Education and Sports Training are 2 nationally distinctive programs. Sports Rehabilitation, Physical Conditioning, and Public Administration are 3 Beijing first-class undergraduate program development sites. National first-class undergraduate program development sites account for 60% of its programs, the highest proportion among sports universities in China.

The university promotes high-quality international exchange and cooperation. Since its founding, it has established exchange and cooperative relationships with more than 60 universities, research institutions and international organizations in over 30 countries and in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, including the International Olympic Committee, FIFA, the European College of Sport Science, Deakin University in Australia, the University of New Haven in the United States, the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom, and the Moscow State Institute of International Relations. It has the world’s only university museum themed around Olympic education. The museum has been designated a National Science Popularization Education Base and one of the first National Sports Science Popularization Bases, becoming an important venue for presenting China’s Olympic education to the world.
