Wuhan Textile University

Wuhan Textile University has four campuses and is committed to creating a first-class teaching environment. It has over 20000 students and 21 teaching schools and departments, offering 64 undergraduate programs, including 4 nationally recognized distinctive programs.

The university has nearly 2000 faculty and staff, including over 1000 full-time teachers, over 500 doctorate holders and 45 doctoral supervisors. Its personnel include 7 jointly appointed or foreign academicians; 3 members of the national “Thousand Talents Plan”; 2 national selectees of the “New Century Hundred, Thousand and Ten Thousand Talents Project”; 1 leading talent in the Hundred, Thousand and Ten Thousand Talents Project under the first national “Ten Thousand Talents Plan”; 1 distinguished professor under the “Changjiang Scholars Program”; 1 recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars; 12 members of Hubei’s “Hundred Talents Plan”; 105 members of the “Chutian Scholars Program”; and a group of “Sunshine Scholars” with overseas study experience.

The university has undertaken over 100 major national, provincial and ministerial research projects, including National Science Foundation projects, “973” and “863” projects and key support programs. Many research achievements have reached advanced international or domestic standards, and its research in textiles, dyeing and printing, clothing and art occupies a leading position. In recent years it has received 1 first prize and 2 second prizes in the National Science and Technology Progress Awards, and 2 second prizes in the National Technological Invention Awards.

The university vigorously promotes international exchanges and cooperation. It focuses on introducing high-quality educational resources from abroad, actively develops international student education and continually raises its international profile. It has Hubei Province’s first undergraduate Sino-foreign cooperative institution without independent legal-person status: the Birmingham Institute of Fashion and Creative Art at Wuhan Textile University. It operates undergraduate cooperative programs with the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom and Bunka Gakuen University in Japan, jointly trains doctoral students with Deakin University in Australia, and has signed international exchange and cooperation agreements with nearly 200 universities in countries including France, the United States, Australia, Russia and Japan. It has long hosted international training seminars on “Trade in Services for Developing Countries,” jointly sponsored by China’s Ministry of Commerce and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development. It has been approved for several projects under the “World-Renowned Scientists Lecturing in Hubei Program” and has organized and hosted major international academic conferences for many consecutive years, steadily advancing its internationalization.

Since 2010, the university has held influential international events in textiles and fashion, including Wuhan International Fashion Week, the International Forum on Modern Textile Science and Technology, the International Symposium on 3D Fabrics and Their Applications, and the China-Russia Higher Education Forum. It also successfully hosted the 89th World Textile Conference, the highest-level conference in the textile field.

The university has established partnerships with nearly 50 universities and research institutions in countries including the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, France and Italy. Each year it sends outstanding teachers and students to overseas universities for exchange visits, including the University of California, Davis in the United States, the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom, a modern art academy in France and Bunka Gakuen University in Japan.
