Yunnan University of Finance and Economics

Founded in 1951, Yunnan University of Finance and Economics has sustained its educational mission for 74 years through the dedication of successive generations. It has become a high-level teaching and research university with a long history in an ethnically diverse border region and distinctive strengths in finance and economics. It offers doctoral degrees in 4 first-level disciplines, has 5 postdoctoral research stations, offers master’s degrees in 12 first-level disciplines and 18 professional master’s degree categories, and has 66 undergraduate programs. Economics and management are its main strengths, developing alongside law, literature, science, engineering, the arts and other disciplines.

The university upholds its motto, “Love Learning and Practice Earnestly; Cultivate Virtue and Reach Far,” and its ethos of seeking truth and innovation. It pursues openness and actively serves and participates in the national Belt and Road Initiative. It recruits international students from around the world for language study and undergraduate, master’s and doctoral education. It is authorized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to issue visa invitation letters for foreigners coming to China and is an entity exempt from verification. It has undertaken educational exchanges and cooperation with more than 160 universities and institutions in over 30 countries and regions, including the United States, France and the United Kingdom. It was the first university in Yunnan Province to offer Chinese-foreign cooperative education programs. Together with Rangsit University in Thailand, it established the Yunnan University of Finance and Economics Bangkok Business School, one of the first overseas education institutions approved by the Ministry of Education. The school recruits students from Thailand and other Southeast Asian countries for degree education and business training. As a Ministry of Commerce training base for international business officials, the university trains government officials through the ministry’s degree education assistance programs for developing countries and its short-term training programs. It currently operates long- and short-term student exchange partnerships with universities or institutions in more than 40 countries, including France, the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, Thailand and Myanmar. In 2025, it successfully passed the Ministry of Education’s quality accreditation for higher education of international students in China. The university has educated more than 6000 international students from 107 countries worldwide, making a notable contribution to enhancing its international reputation, promoting intercultural understanding and advancing shared development.
