Beijing University of Chemical Technology

Beijing University of Chemical Technology was founded in 1958 as Beijing Institute of Chemical Technology, a high-level university established by the People’s Republic of China to “train advanced chemical engineering professionals needed for the development of cutting-edge science.” As a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education, a key institution under Project 211 and the Project 985 Innovation Platforms for Advantageous Disciplines, and a national Double First-Class university, it undertakes the mission of educating advanced innovative talent, conducting fundamental and forward-looking scientific research, and developing original high technology.

Over 68 years of development, the university has established its motto, “Great Virtue and Broad Learning; Transforming Nature through Education,” and its spirit of “Unity and Dedication, Hard Work, Practical Action, Broad Learning and Innovation.” It has developed into a multidisciplinary key university with solid foundations in science, strong engineering capabilities and distinctive strengths in management, economics, law, literature, education, philosophy, medicine and other disciplines. It offers multiple levels of education, including undergraduate, postgraduate, international student and continuing education. It has 18 schools or departments, more than 16000 full-time undergraduates, 10400 postgraduate students including over 2000 doctoral students, more than 2700 continuing education students in correspondence and evening programs, and nearly 400 international degree students. Its more than 2700 faculty and staff include 8 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering and 5 international academicians.

Its disciplinary strength continues to grow. Chemical engineering and technology was selected as a national Double First-Class discipline, and its Class A disciplines achieved a significant breakthrough in the fifth national discipline evaluation. Chemistry, materials science and engineering rank in the top 1 per thousand in ESI. Ten disciplines–chemistry, materials science, engineering, biology and biochemistry, ecology/environment, computer science, agricultural sciences, geosciences, physics, and pharmacology and toxicology–rank in ESI’s top 1%.

Beijing University of Chemical Technology has partnerships with more than 170 overseas institutions worldwide. It offers international students a variety of educational programs, including bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral programs in Chinese and English, Chinese language and culture courses, and summer science camps.
