Henan University of Technology

Henan University of Technology is located in Zhengzhou, the capital of Henan Province. It is one of China’s four strong local universities with the most distinctive industry characteristics, the first university in Henan to receive a first prize in the National Science and Technology Progress Awards, and among the first universities selected for the Higher Education Innovation Capacity Enhancement Plan, known as Plan 2011. Founded in 1956, it became jointly supported by the State Administration of Grain and Henan Province through an agreement signed in 2010. It is a multidisciplinary university emphasizing engineering, with coordinated development in science, economics, management and other disciplines, and a three-level bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral education system.

The university has 3 campuses covering more than 2800 mu, with 1.46 million square meters of buildings, library holdings of over 2.3 million volumes, and a 10-gigabit campus network. It has 18 provincial first-level key disciplines, 1 doctoral talent training project serving special national needs, 1 postdoctoral research station, master’s degree authorization in 20 first-level and 121 second-level disciplines, and authorization to award professional master’s degrees in 8 categories, including engineering, business administration (MBA) and agriculture. It has 20 schools and 68 undergraduate programs, including 5 national distinctive programs. There are more than 30000 full-time students, over one hundred international students and more than 2100 faculty and staff. Its faculty includes 2 specially appointed academicians, 2 Zhongyuan Scholars, 36 doctoral supervisors, more than 40 experts receiving special State Council allowances, provincial distinguished professors and National Outstanding Teachers; more than 90 provincial or ministerial outstanding teachers, outstanding experts, distinguished teachers and experts with outstanding contributions; and more than 140 provincial academic and technical leaders, young key faculty and recipients of the Outstanding Talent Innovation Fund.

The university pursues an openness-driven strategy, making full use of high-quality overseas educational resources and actively developing Chinese-foreign cooperative education. It jointly offers 6 undergraduate programs with the University of Wales and the University of Reading in the United Kingdom and Chung Yuan Christian University in Taiwan. It conducts student exchanges with Kansas State University in the United States, Politecnico di Torino in Italy and Chosun University in South Korea. It began admitting international students in 2007. In 2016, it obtained authority to independently recruit Chinese Government Scholarship students and offer Henan Provincial Government Scholarship support. It also maintains good partnerships with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the International Association for Cereal Science and Technology, U.S. Wheat Associates, the Canadian Wheat Board, the French wheat association and the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research. It has successfully hosted international academic conferences including the United Nations International Regional Seminar on Grain Logistics and the International Symposium on Wheat Quality and Flour Improvement. In 2008, the Ministry of Commerce approved it as Henan’s only institution to undertake national foreign assistance human resources development cooperation projects. It has since trained more than 500 grain administration and technical officials from 86 developing countries.
