Southeast University

Founded in 1902, Southeast University is one of China’s earliest higher education institutions. It is in Nanjing, the capital of Jiangsu Province in southeastern China. More than 1/3 of the world’s 500 largest companies have branches in the province. Over the past five years, Jiangsu has consistently led China’s provinces in attracting foreign investment. Nanjing is both a beautiful modern city and a place with a long history and rich culture. Short flights connect it to China’s major cities, and the train journey from Nanjing to Shanghai takes only 2 hours. Within the city, you can travel by bus, taxi, metro or bicycle. Nanjing served as the capital of ten dynasties. Its ancient city wall, first built in 1360, is the best-preserved ancient city wall in the world. Nanjing has four distinct seasons. In early spring, you can enjoy plum blossoms at the Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum, built 500 years ago. In summer, you can celebrate the Grape Festival on Jiangxin Island and enjoy Chinese rural scenery, or stroll along the Qinhuai River beside the Confucius Temple. In autumn, you can climb Purple Mountain amid red leaves or overlook the city from the 450-meter-high Zifeng Tower. In winter, you can welcome the New Year to the sound of bells at Qixia Temple.
Southeast University is a key comprehensive research university directly under the Ministry of Education, with disciplines including science, engineering, medicine, literature, law, philosophy, education, economics and management. It has 38 schools and departments and 85 undergraduate programs. Its 3 main campuses cover a total of 447 hectares. It has 41756 full-time students, including 24707 postgraduate students and 2165 international students. In the fourth round of national discipline evaluation organized by the Ministry of Education in 2017, architecture, civil engineering, biomedical engineering, transportation engineering and art theory received A+ ratings. Its total number of A+ disciplines ranked 8th nationwide and first among Jiangsu universities. It was selected as a Class A university for first-class university development, with 12 disciplines included in the Double First-Class discipline list: mechanical engineering, materials science and engineering, electronic science and technology, information and communication engineering, control science and engineering, computer science and technology, architecture, civil engineering, transportation engineering, biomedical engineering, landscape architecture and art theory.
Southeast University has always valued international exchange and cooperation and has signed cooperation agreements with more than 100 overseas universities, research institutions and companies. It began admitting international students in the 1950s. Currently, nearly 2000 international students from more than 100 countries study at the university. In addition to choosing from all Chinese-taught courses, international students can take Chinese-language courses at different levels, join short-term study tours or enroll in English-taught programs. In 2006, the university launched an entirely English-taught undergraduate clinical medicine program for international students. Its 16 English-taught master’s programs that have admitted international students are international trade, transportation engineering, electrical engineering, biology, landscape architecture, electronics and information engineering, public health, urban and rural planning, power engineering and engineering thermophysics, electronic science and technology, environmental science and engineering, civil engineering, electronic information, architecture, mechanics, and control science and engineering. It is a host institution for the Chinese Government Scholarship, Jiangsu Outstanding Student Scholarship and Nanjing Municipal Government Scholarship, and also offers the Southeast University President Scholarship and corporate scholarships to reward outstanding incoming and current international students.
