Guangxi Medical University is rooted in Nanning, a highly dynamic city in southwestern China. Founded in 1934, the university was one of China’s first 8 medical institutions designated to admit international students and among the first approved by the Ministry of Education to provide English-taught undergraduate clinical medicine. It has extensive experience in international education. It ranked 17th among medical universities in the 2025 ShanghaiRanking Best Chinese Universities Ranking and appeared among the top 1000 in the Academic Ranking of World Universities for three consecutive years. The university has 19 second-level schools and a complete disciplinary system covering 7 categories, including medicine, science and engineering. It offers 31 undergraduate programs, 7 of which are national first-class undergraduate program development sites. Core programs including clinical medicine, nursing, stomatology and pharmacy have all passed Ministry of Education program accreditation, aligning teaching quality with international standards. It has 4 campuses, including Wuxiang Campus under construction, covering approximately 3300 mu. It has 5 directly affiliated hospitals, 10 other affiliated hospitals and 198 practical teaching bases. Its Clinical Skills Training Center is Guangxi’s largest clinical medicine practice platform and is also a national practical education base for university students and a national clinical teaching and training demonstration center. Its 5 directly affiliated Grade III Class A hospitals, with 7483 authorized beds, provide international students with comprehensive support from theory to practice.

The university has strong faculty and research capabilities. Its more than 2400 full-time teachers include 3 academicians, over 1800 master’s supervisors and over 400 doctoral supervisors. Seven disciplines rank in the global ESI top 1%: clinical medicine, pharmacology and toxicology, biology and biochemistry, molecular biology and genetics, immunology, general social sciences and materials science. Clinical medicine is in the global top 1.38‰. It has 4 national, 9 ministry-level and 66 provincial research platforms, with internationally leading achievements in fields such as thalassemia prevention and treatment and targeted cancer therapy.
