The University of Science and Technology Liaoning is a multidisciplinary university centered on engineering, with coordinated development in science, engineering, literature, economics, management and law. It is located in Anshan, China’s steel city, with Qianshan National Forest Park to the east and Jade Buddha Garden, a national 4A scenic attraction, to the west. Its beautiful surroundings and rich heritage offer fertile ground for focused study and scientific research.
Founded in 1948, the institution was reorganized as the undergraduate Anshan Institute of Iron and Steel in 1958 to train urgently needed high-level professionals for Anshan Iron and Steel and other metallurgical enterprises. It was under the former Ministry of Metallurgical Industry [the source sentence also contains the misplaced phrase “national 4A tourist attraction Jade Buddha Garden”] and was among China’s earliest metallurgical higher education institutions. In 1998, with higher education system reform, it became jointly developed and administered by Liaoning Province and the Ministry of Education, with provincial management taking the lead. With Ministry of Education approval, it was renamed Anshan University of Science and Technology in 2002 and University of Science and Technology Liaoning in 2006.
The university covers 1.47 million square meters, with fixed assets exceeding RMB 1 billion and teaching and research equipment valued at RMB 140 million. Its library holds 1.59 million books, and it has 22558 full-time students. It has 18 schools, 45 undergraduate programs, 20 junior-college programs, 47 master’s degree authorizations, 7 doctoral degree authorizations and an MBA professional degree program across six disciplinary categories: science, engineering, literature, economics, law and management.
