Heilongjiang University of Chinese Medicine

Heilongjiang University of Chinese Medicine was founded in 1954. After seventy years of development, it has become a Chinese medicine university with high standards of teaching, research and medical care and a degree of influence in China and abroad. In 2004, it was among the first universities nationally to receive an excellent rating in the Ministry of Education’s undergraduate teaching evaluation. In 2007, it was the first institution in China to pass the ministry’s undergraduate traditional Chinese medicine program accreditation. In 2018 and 2022, it was approved as a Heilongjiang “High-Level University and Advantageous Distinctive Discipline Development Institution.” In 2021, it was approved as a university jointly developed by the Heilongjiang Provincial People’s Government and National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In 2023, it was approved as a joint developer of the State Key Laboratory of Integrated Innovation in Classical Formulas and Modern Chinese Medicine.

The university has 16 schools, 12 affiliated hospitals including 4 directly affiliated hospitals, 1 Chinese medicine research institute, 1 Chinese medicine higher education research institute, 31 teaching hospitals and 78 internship bases. It offers 27 undergraduate programs across 4 categories: medicine, science, engineering and management. It has 4 first-level doctoral degree authorizations and 1 professional doctoral degree category; 6 first-level master’s degree authorizations and 7 professional master’s degree categories. It has 21728 full-time students.

It has 4228 faculty and staff, 136 doctoral supervisors and 651 master’s supervisors. Its personnel include 31 recipients of State Council or provincial government special allowances; 2 members of the State Council Academic Degrees Committee’s disciplinary appraisal groups; 1 member of a national professional degree postgraduate education steering committee; 7 members of Ministry of Education higher education teaching advisory committees; 5 national young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions; and 7 national selectees of the Hundred, Thousand and Ten Thousand Talents Project, among others. It has 1 state key laboratory, 1 Ministry of Education engineering research center and 1 Ministry of Education key laboratory; 1 National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine research center, 3 key research offices and 10 level-three laboratories; 1 Ministry of Science and Technology international science and technology cooperation base in Chinese medicine; and 1 National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine international science and technology cooperation base.

It is qualified to provide degree education for international students and students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan and was among the first universities approved by the Ministry of Education to admit international students. It has educational, medical, scientific and technological cooperation and exchanges with over 40 medical institutions and research organizations in more than 30 countries and regions. It has hosted over 500 overseas visiting scholars and trained over 5000 international students and students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.
