Donghua University

Donghua University is directly under the Ministry of Education and is a national Project 211 and Double First-Class university. Located in Shanghai, China, it has Songjiang, Yan’an Road and Xinhua Road campuses. It is a Shanghai Garden Institution and Shanghai Civilized Campus, and its Songjiang campus is a national water conservancy scenic area. It began admitting international students in 1954, making it one of the first institutions to do so, and is a host university for Chinese Government Scholarship and Shanghai Municipal Government Scholarship students. It opens 26 doctoral, 48 master’s and 56 undergraduate programs to international students. It has more than 2200 faculty and staff and nearly thirty thousand students, including over 2000 international students from more than 100 countries.

Donghua University’s distinctive strengths include textiles, materials and design. It has 2 national Double First-Class disciplines, textile science and engineering, and materials science and engineering. Seven disciplines–engineering, chemistry, materials science, computer science, mathematics, environmental science and ecology, and biology and biochemistry–rank in the global ESI top 1%, with materials science and chemistry in the global top 1 per thousand. Nine programs, including textile engineering, have passed engineering education accreditation. Building environment and energy application engineering has passed Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development accreditation, and the Glorious Sun School of Business and Management has passed business education accreditation from the UK’s Association of MBAs and Business Graduates Association (AMBA&BGA).

The university advances international educational openness, strengthens international cooperation and exchange, and actively serves the Belt and Road Initiative. Together with 40 universities specializing in textiles in 21 countries, it established the Belt and Road World Textile University Alliance. It has good partnerships with more than 200 overseas universities worldwide and has signed over 90 overseas exchange and joint training agreements with universities and international organizations in more than 20 countries and regions. With the Open University of China and the Open University of Kenya, it established a China-Africa Regional Cooperation Center for Digital Education. It was successfully selected as a Chinese member institution in the digital education field of the China-Africa Universities 100 Cooperation Plan and in the China-Africa University Alliance exchange mechanism. It established a textile- and apparel-focused Confucius Institute at Moi University in Kenya and jointly founded Shanghai International College of Fashion and Innovation at Donghua University with the University of Edinburgh to educate first-class fashion and creative talent with international perspectives.
