Minzu University of China

Founded in 1951, Minzu University of China is a comprehensive university with distinctive characteristics and has been selected for the national Project 211, Project 985 and Double First-Class initiatives. It is an important base for communicating China’s outstanding traditional and ethnic cultures, a cradle of outstanding ethnic minority talent, and an important showcase for ethnic unity and progress. It is among China’s first demonstration bases for international education and is a Beijing talent development base for Belt and Road countries. It has three campuses: Haidian and Fengtai in Beijing, and the Li’an International Education Innovation Pilot Zone in Lingshui, Hainan. Its elegant, tranquil campuses have a rich humanities atmosphere and distinctive ethnic characteristics.

The university has 1 faculty and 26 schools, with 71 undergraduate programs covering 12 disciplinary categories including literature, history, philosophy, economics, management, law, science, engineering, medicine, education and the arts. It has 54 first-level discipline and professional master’s degree authorizations, 14 first-level discipline and professional doctoral authorizations, 6 postdoctoral research stations, and 51 national or Beijing first-class undergraduate program development sites. It has a highly qualified, high-level, multiethnic faculty of nearly 2000. Among nearly 26000 full-time students, those from the 55 ethnic minority groups consistently account for at least 50%. Reflecting the larger family of the Chinese nation, it is the only Chinese university with teachers and students from all 56 of China’s ethnic groups, where diverse cultures coexist harmoniously.

Each year, nearly one thousand international students from more than 50 countries study at the university. It is qualified to recruit Chinese Government Scholarship, International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship and Beijing Government Scholarship for International Students recipients, and all programs accept international students. Nearly 60% of current international students pursue undergraduate, master’s or doctoral degrees in subjects including international Chinese language education, literature, management, education, economics, law and the arts.

The School of International Education is responsible for international student recruitment, administration and services across the university. It also teaches Chinese-language training for all international students, an undergraduate program in teaching Chinese to speakers of other languages, a master’s program in international Chinese language education, and a doctoral specialization in international Chinese teaching. It has comprehensive facilities and an excellent faculty, with at least 90% of full-time teachers holding certification in teaching Chinese as a foreign language. Its year-round long- and short-term Chinese language and culture courses are popular among learners worldwide.
