Shandong Normal University

Shandong Normal University is a provincial key higher education institution with two campuses, Qianfoshan and Changqing Lake, covering nearly 3850 mu, approximately 2.56 million square meters, and about 1.35 million square meters of buildings. It has 22 schools or departments, 64 undergraduate admission programs, 13 postdoctoral research stations, doctoral degrees in 16 first-level disciplines and 4 professional categories, and master’s degrees in 31 first-level disciplines and 24 professional categories. Its disciplines span ten categories, and its number of discipline and professional degree authorizations is among the highest at provincially administered universities.

Following an international development strategy, it has friendly institutional partnerships with more than 180 universities in 38 countries and regions, forming an emerging global cooperation network. It offers more than one hundred joint international student training programs, covering the full sequence from credit-bearing programs to bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees and postdoctoral research. It operates 2 Chinese-foreign cooperative undergraduate programs, 1 master’s program and 1 cooperative education institution. Its 8 overseas Confucius Institutes place it among the leading Chinese universities by number, and it has received honors including Advanced Chinese Partner Institution of Confucius Institutes, Global Advanced Confucius Institute and Global Advanced Individual in Confucius Institute Work. It is the legal entity, presidency and secretariat host of the Shandong Education Association for International Exchange and a provincial advanced institution in international educational exchange.

It was among the first universities approved by the Ministry of Education to recruit international students and designated to receive Chinese Government Scholarship students, and among the first host institutions for Confucius Institute Scholarship and Shandong Provincial Government Scholarship students. Since it began admitting international students in 1983, it has educated more than twenty thousand long- and short-term international students from over 70 countries and regions over more than 40 years, becoming a window for Shandong’s opening-up.
