Guangzhou Medical University

The university follows a strategy of “building the university through talent” and brings together outstanding teachers including academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, “Thousand Talents Plan” experts, national selectees of the New Century Hundred, Thousand and Ten Thousand Talents Project, National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars recipients, Changjiang Scholars, nationally distinguished teachers and national experts with outstanding contributions. It has 115 doctoral supervisors and 1044 master’s supervisors.

The university cultivates versatile professionals with humanistic values, international perspectives, innovative minds and practical abilities. It admits students to 20 undergraduate programs across 5 disciplinary categories: medicine, science, management, engineering and law. It has 2 national distinctive program development sites, 8 provincial comprehensive reform pilot programs, 3 provincial renowned programs, 4 provincial distinctive program development sites and 2 provincial key programs. It has 1 national quality resource-sharing course, 1 national bilingual teaching demonstration course, 24 provincial quality resource-sharing courses and 9 provincial quality open video courses. It has 1 national virtual simulation experimental teaching center, 1 provincial virtual simulation experimental teaching demonstration center and 8 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers.

The university may recommend students for examination-exempt postgraduate admission. It has 10 first-level master’s degree authorizations, including 6 academic and 4 professional master’s authorizations, plus 2 independent second-level academic master’s authorizations. It has 1 first-level and 20 second-level doctoral degree authorizations and a postdoctoral research station in the first-level discipline of clinical medicine. It has over 10000 full-time undergraduate and postgraduate students. Over the past five years, the overall graduate employment rate has exceeded 98%.

Over the past six years, the university has undertaken over 3000 government-sponsored research projects at municipal level and above, including National Science and Technology Support Program projects. Its number of National Natural Science Foundation project approvals ranked in the national top 100 for four consecutive years. It has received 36 national, provincial or ministerial science and technology awards. It has published 4520 SCI papers in renowned international journals including Nature Medicine, New Eng J Med and Lancet, including 1656 papers with the university as the first contributor’s or first author’s institution. It publishes 6 academic journals. The Chinese Journal of Biomedical Engineering, Chinese Journal of Joint Surgery and Thrombosis and Hemostasis are Chinese science and technology core journals. The English-language Journal of Thoracic Disease and Annals of Translational Medicine are indexed by SCI and PubMed, respectively.

The university conducts extensive international academic and educational exchanges and cooperation and is a Guangdong pilot institution for reform in undergraduate educational internationalization. It has stable partnerships with universities in countries and regions including the United States, United Kingdom, France, the Netherlands, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao.
