II. About Guiyang
Guiyang, the capital of Guizhou Province, is the province’s political, economic, cultural, scientific, educational and transport center. It is also an important transport and communications hub, industrial base, and business, tourism and service center in southwestern China. Its name comes from its location south of Gui Mountain, and it has a history of over 400 years. In ancient times it produced abundant bamboo and was known for making the musical instrument called the zhu, hence its shortened name “Zhu” and the name “Jinzhu.” Also called the “Forest City” and “Zhu City,” it is an important gateway linking the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road, a national ecological civilization demonstration city and an important national destination for ecological leisure and holidays. It administers six districts—Yunyan, Nanming, Huaxi, Wudang, Baiyun and Guanshanhu—one county-level city and three counties—Qingzhen, Xiuwen, Xifeng and Kaiyang—and four national development zones: the High-Tech Zone, Economic Development Zone, Comprehensive Bonded Zone and Shuanglong Airport Economic Zone. It has received over 40 honors, including National Sanitary City, National Ecological Civilization City, China’s Summer Resort Capital, Best-Performing Chinese City, One of the Ten Most Popular Tourism Cities, National Model City for Mutual Support between the Military and Civilians, and a place among China’s Top 100 Cities in 2021.
With beautiful scenery, Guiyang is a modern plateau city where “the city lies among mountains, mountains lie within the city, green belts surround it, forests encircle it, the city is in the forest and the forest is in the city.” It was China’s first National Forest City and is a pilot city for the circular economy. Its favorable climate includes comfortable temperatures, moderate humidity, beneficial wind speeds, low ultraviolet radiation, clean air, excellent water, suitable elevation and low summer energy consumption.
