Founded in 1949, Liaoning Technical University is a national key university with independent recruitment authority for Chinese Government Scholarship and Liaoning Provincial Government Scholarship students. It is located in Fuxin and the beautiful coastal city of Huludao in Liaoning, covering 2.8 million square meters, with 42000 registered Chinese and international students.
Over sixty-eight years, it has developed into a renowned institution integrating talent development, research and international cooperation, with comprehensive teaching facilities and a strong faculty. It offers 9 disciplinary categories–engineering, management, science, economics, literature, law, agriculture, education and the arts–through 24 schools, 109 undergraduate programs, 58 master’s programs, 25 doctoral programs and 5 postdoctoral research stations. Since its founding, it has trained 120000 professionals of various types, including many noted experts and scholars represented by Chinese Academy of Engineering academicians, and outstanding managers of large and medium-sized national enterprises.
The university has comprehensive teaching and research facilities and a pleasant environment for learning and living. Its modern library holds 2.2 million volumes. The natural sciences edition of the Journal of Liaoning Technical University is indexed by CSTA and EI and included in the China Academic Journals CD-ROM edition; it was also among the first journals included in China’s core journal list.
The university has more than 1700 specialist teachers, including 1 academician of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, five jointly appointed academicians, four Changjiang Scholars and more than 1000 personnel with associate senior professional titles. It has one national teaching team. Treating talent development quality as its lifeline, it passed the Ministry of Education’s undergraduate teaching evaluation with an excellent rating in 2006. Graduate employment is at least 95% each year. It has undertaken more than 3500 national, National Natural Science Foundation and other research projects, with four achievements receiving second prizes in the National Science and Technology Progress Awards, and has received approval for a national university science park. It ranked 49th in the 2017-2018 comprehensive competitiveness ranking of China’s key universities and 74th nationally for university science and technology funding in 2016.
The university consistently follows an international and open approach. Within China, it has substantive university-enterprise cooperation agreements with more than 20 major companies, including Shenhua Group, China Coal Energy Group, Zhongping Energy and Chemical Group, Datong Coal Mine Group and Shanxi Coking Coal Group. It has 120 governing board member organizations. It has institutional and academic exchange relationships with universities and research institutes in more than 30 countries, including the United States, Russia, Vietnam, Germany, Australia, South Africa and Japan. It operates a “3+1+1” joint master’s training program with Lawrence Technological University in the United States.
The university has a rich campus cultural life. As Liaoning’s only selected institution, it was designated by the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Finance to implement the second round of the University Student Innovative Experiment Program. Students have won awards for more than 600 works in national and Liaoning scientific, technological and academic competitions.
