North China University of Technology

Founded in 1946, North China University of Technology is in Shijingshan District, Beijing. Its elegant environment and rich cultural atmosphere earned it recognition among Beijing’s Top Ten Most Beautiful University Campuses.

It has a broad, multilevel education system spanning undergraduate, master’s and doctoral study, full-time and adult higher education, and international student education. It has 2 first-level doctoral degree authorization fields in Mechanical Engineering and Control Science and Engineering, 1 doctoral talent training project serving special national needs, 18 first-level master’s disciplines, 10 professional master’s degree categories, and 39 undergraduate programs admitting students. It has 13 national and 20 Beijing first-class undergraduate program development sites and 2 Beijing university priority first-class programs. Eight programs have passed educational accreditation or assessment, and 4 have ACBSP international business accreditation. It has approval for 33 national first-class courses and Beijing university quality undergraduate courses, textbooks and teaching materials, including priority projects. It has 29 national, provincial or ministerial teaching and research platforms, 2 Ministry of Education new engineering research and practice projects, 1 new liberal arts research and reform practice project, and 18 Beijing higher education Undergraduate Teaching Reform and Innovation projects. Since 2003, it has received 2 second prizes in national education and teaching achievement awards and, in Beijing higher education teaching achievement awards, 1 special prize, 17 first prizes and 31 second prizes.

Engineering ranks in the ESI global top 1%. Computer Science and Technology received a Category B rating in the fourth national discipline assessment. Control Science and Engineering ranked in the top 20% in the 2020 ShanghaiRanking Best Chinese Subjects Rankings and was approved as a Beijing university high-level, advanced and cutting-edge discipline. Electrical and Electronic Engineering ranked among the world’s top 400 in the 2020 ShanghaiRanking Global Ranking of Academic Subjects, first among Beijing municipal universities. Its doctoral talent training project serving special national needs passed Ministry of Education acceptance. It actively promotes interdisciplinary integration through its 324 discipline system: 3 discipline clusters in Intelligent Control, Intelligent Manufacturing and Smart Cities; 2 distinctive interdisciplinary fields in Energy Storage and Emerging Risk Prevention and Control; and growing strengths in 4 areas—Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, Artificial Intelligence, Integrated Circuits and New Materials.

It closely supports Beijing’s Four Centers positioning and international science and technology innovation center development, focusing on the operation and governance of the capital as a megacity and providing technological research and think tank support. It has leading strengths in intelligent transport, energy conservation and environmental protection, risk prevention and disaster warning, new materials and green power supplies, and provides important think tank support in economic management, legal services and green and livable development. It has 16 provincial or ministerial key laboratories and engineering technology research centers, 1 jointly developed national key laboratory base, and participates in 3 provincial or ministerial collaborative innovation centers. It has established 13 university research and development institutions, including an Institute of Advanced Innovation, an Energy Storage Engineering Center and an Institute of Emerging Risks. Drawing on its location, it has established the North China University of Technology Science Park. It has been approved to establish a Beijing philosophy and social sciences research base. Its research achievements have received 8 second prizes in the National Science and Technology Progress Awards and over 80 provincial or ministerial awards.

It is a host institution for Chinese Government Scholarship students, an approved Beijing talent training base for Belt and Road countries, and has approval to prepare an International School of Applied Learning for People-to-People Exchange. It has inter-university partnerships with 126 universities in 40 countries and regions and more than 80 student exchange and study programs, with over 600 international students of various categories from more than 70 countries. It was approved to establish the first Sino-British joint undergraduate education institution at a Beijing university, the Brunel London School of North China University of Technology. It has jointly established a School of Modern Engineering with Andijan Machine-Building Institute in Uzbekistan to develop international talent for the Belt and Road.
