Changchun University of Science and Technology was founded by the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1958. For over 60 years, it has upheld its spirit of “aiming high, persevering with self-reliance, uniting knowledge and action, and pursuing excellence.” It has developed into a key teaching and research university distinguished by optoelectronic technology, with coordinated development in engineering, science, literature, economics, management, law and art. Known as “the cradle of China’s optical talent,” it has consistently maintained a leading position in optical engineering. It has strong research capabilities in lasers, optoelectronic instruments, detection, communications, advanced manufacturing, computer applications, optoelectronic functional materials, nanomaterials and biomedical engineering, as well as notable achievements in humanities and social science research, including economics, management, law, and Chinese language and literature.
The university has a strong, internationally minded faculty led by academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Guided by its motto, “Virtue, Erudition, Truth and Innovation,” it trains high-quality professionals with innovative minds and practical engineering abilities. It has 9 postdoctoral research stations, 38 doctoral programs, 102 master’s programs and 58 undergraduate programs. In 2025, its full-time student population reached 27,493, including 1115 doctoral students, 6312 master’s students and 19861 undergraduates.
Its network of educational cooperation and academic relationships covers Europe, the Americas, Asia and Africa. It has established friendly partnerships with over 100 universities and research institutions in more than 20 countries, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, Norway, Russia, Japan, South Korea and Nigeria. Over the years, more than 3000 international students from 106 countries have studied at the university.
