Xi’an Shiyou University

▼ Founded in 1951, this multidisciplinary higher education institution specializes in petroleum and petrochemicals. It has three campuses—Yanta, Mingde and Huyi—covering a total of 2078 mu in Xi’an, the historic and cultural city at the starting point of the Silk Road.

▼ It is jointly supported by China’s three major oil companies—CNPC, Sinopec and CNOOC—and the People’s Government of Shaanxi Province.

▼ It participates in the national 14th Five-Year Plan Project to Promote a Strong Education System, is a Ministry of Education demonstration base for international education in China, and independently recruits Chinese Government Scholarship international students. It is also a university under cultivation for Shaanxi’s Double First-Class initiative and a participating institution in the province’s high-level university development initiative.

▼ The university’s disciplines and programs have distinctive characteristics and cover nine categories: science, engineering, economics, management, literature, law, education, the arts and interdisciplinary studies. It offers a complete undergraduate, master’s and doctoral education system, with doctoral degrees in 3 first-level disciplines, master’s degrees in 18 first-level disciplines, 15 professional master’s degree categories and 48 undergraduate programs.

▼ Engineering, chemistry, geosciences and materials science each rank in the top 1% worldwide in ESI. The university has been recognized for a distinctive engineering field in national Master of Engineering graduate education. It has 1 Shaanxi first-class discipline, 7 provincial advantageous disciplines and 1 provincial distinctive philosophy and social science development project.

▼ The university’s workforce has steadily expanded, with continuing improvements in its structure and qualifications. It has more than 1900 faculty and staff, including over 1380 full-time teachers and more than 750 personnel with senior professional titles, among them 44 grade-two and grade-three professors. It has more than 770 doctoral and master’s supervisors and over 900 teachers with doctorates.

▼ It began admitting international students in 1966. More than ten thousand international students from 98 countries and regions have since studied at the university.
