The University of Electronic Science and Technology of China is located in Chengdu, Sichuan Province. It was founded in 1956 by merging telecommunications engineering-related programs from three leading science and engineering universities. In 1960, the CPC Central Committee designated it a national key higher education institution. It became one of the first key universities under the national Project 211 in 1997, joined the national Project 985 in 2001, and entered the Class A group for national world-class university development in 2017.
With electronic information science and technology at its core and an emphasis on engineering and the integration of science and engineering, it has developed into a multidisciplinary research university with coordinated development in science, engineering, management, literature and medicine.
The university actively pursues a talent-first development strategy. It has more than 3800 faculty and staff, including over 2700 teachers and more than 800 professors.
It has more than 44000 full-time students of all types.
It began recruiting international students on a large scale in 2010 and currently has more than 1200 international students from over 100 countries and regions.
It has three campuses, Qingshuihe, Shahe and Jiulidi, with 1.49 million square meters of buildings, a modern digital library with extensive holdings, and well-equipped modern sports venues.
In the latest U.S. News world university rankings, it ranks 152nd overall worldwide, 5th in electrical and electronic engineering, 6th in artificial intelligence and 17th in computer science.
