Ningxia Medical University

Ningxia Medical University was founded in 1958, the same year as Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, and is Ningxia’s only medical higher education institution.

It covers 1200 mu, with 293200 square meters of buildings, and has 13 teaching units and 11 teaching support and research institutions. Its 13 affiliated hospitals, 16 teaching hospitals and over 120 internship hospitals and practical teaching bases extend across China. Over 58 years since its founding, it has trained over 60000 medical professionals at various levels.

It has 862 full-time teachers, including 522 postgraduate supervisors and 658 people with associate senior or higher titles. Doctorate-holding teachers account for 30.63%. It has over 9700 full-time students, including over 1600 postgraduate students and over 300 international students.

Its 21 undergraduate programs cover 3 disciplinary categories: medicine, management and science. It has 3 first-level doctoral degree authorizations, 8 first-level master’s degree authorizations and 5 professional degree categories. National resources include 5 distinctive programs, 2 experimental teaching demonstration centers, 1 teaching team and 1 off-campus practical teaching base.

It has 1 postdoctoral science and technology workstation, 1 Ministry of Science and Technology provincial-ministerial jointly developed state key laboratory cultivation base, 1 Ministry of Education key laboratory, 1 provincial-ministerial jointly developed Ministry of Education key laboratory and 4 academician workstations.

In recent years, the university has received honors including National Civilized Unit, National May 1 Labor Certificate, National Advanced Primary-Level Party Organization in the Campaign for Excellence, National May Fourth Red Flag Youth League Committee, National Advanced Unit in Internal Audit and National Model Unit in Greening. It was among the Ministry of Education’s first universities with exemplary graduate employment practices.

Upholding its motto, “Cultivate Virtue and Help Others, Study Diligently and Master Medical Skills,” and its philosophy of “hard work and self-improvement, open education and substantive development, distinctive strengths and innovation, and comprehensive improvement in educational quality and effectiveness,” it has developed through the sustained work of generations of staff and students. It is now a medical higher education institution with coordinated development in scale, structure, quality and effectiveness and a degree of influence and recognition among similar institutions nationwide. It is working toward “two first-class goals”—being first-class in western China and having first-class disciplines—and toward becoming a distinctive, modern, high-level teaching and research medical university in the western region.
