Founded in 1940, Beijing Institute of Technology is a university prioritized for national development in China and was among the first institutions selected for Project 211, Project 985 and world-class university development. It ranks 259th in the 2026 QS World University Rankings, 102nd in the 2025 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), 156th in the U.S. News 2025-2026 Best Global Universities Rankings, and 236th in the 2026 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings. It ranked 9th among mainland Chinese universities in the 2022 QS Graduate Employability Rankings. It passed the Chinese Ministry of Education’s reaccreditation for the quality of higher education for international students in China, becoming the country’s first institution to receive an A+ rating.
Beijing Institute of Technology’s Zhuhai campus was founded in 2001 as a high-level international campus in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Located in the area’s Golden Inner Bay and the core innovation belt of the Zhuhai National High-Tech Zone, it is close to Guangzhou and Shenzhen with direct connections to Hong Kong and Macao, convenient transport and an attractive environment. Upholding an educational philosophy of converging intelligence, diversity, integration and flourishing, it is developing an international education system with Greater Bay Area characteristics and the BIT identity. The Beijing and Zhuhai campuses together currently have more than 4000 international students from 152 countries.
