Tianjin University of Technology and Education

Founded in 1979, Tianjin University of Technology and Education was China’s earliest regular higher normal institution whose main mission was to train vocational education teachers. It has educated more than 50000 high-quality vocational teachers and advanced applied technical professionals, whose graduates are well received by employers.

Upholding its philosophy, “Engage Hands and Mind; Develop Comprehensively,” the university remains committed to educating high-quality vocational teachers for the country. It has more than 18000 full-time undergraduate, master’s and doctoral students. To meet market needs, it also develops advanced applied technical talent. In the 1990s, it pioneered a dual-certificate model in which graduates receive both an academic qualification and an occupational qualification certificate. This distinctive model has twice received first prizes in the National Teaching Achievement Awards.

It has 10 schools spanning 7 categories: engineering, education, science, management, economics, literature and the arts. It has 1 postdoctoral workstation, 1 doctoral talent training project serving special national needs, master’s degrees in 10 first-level disciplines and 39 undergraduate programs.

Tianjin is one of China’s four centrally administered municipalities and the largest coastal city in northern China. The university is in Hexi District in southeastern Tianjin, with convenient transport: a half-hour drive from Tianjin Railway Station and 20 minutes from Tianjin Binhai International Airport.

It began admitting international students in 1993 and hosts Chinese Government Scholarship students, Confucius Institute Scholarship visiting students and Tianjin Government Scholarship international students. In 2008, it established the International College to oversee recruitment, education and administration.

It offers various scholarships for international students. Since 2003, international enrollment has continued to grow, with more than one thousand students from over 70 countries in Asia, Africa, Europe and the Americas undertaking long- and short-term study. It currently has undergraduate, master’s and doctoral students from nearly 20 countries, including Thailand, Vietnam, South Korea, Ethiopia, Zambia, Tanzania, Ukraine and Poland.

As one of the Ministry of Education’s first educational foreign assistance bases, it has made more than 200 teacher deployments to vocational institutions in Asian, African and other countries, educating and training over ten thousand students. It undertook China’s assistance project for the Ethio-China Polytechnic College, selected for the national China-Africa Universities 20+20 Cooperation Plan. In 2014, it established a China-ASEAN Education and Training Center of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Education. It has 3 Confucius Institutes, 6 Confucius Classrooms and 2 Chinese teaching sites in Africa, Oceania and Europe, and undertakes international cooperation with universities in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Belgium, New Zealand and other countries.
